Is it just us, or are the famous and fashionable simply getting younger and younger? It would seem that building a career whilst you’re still on packed lunches is all the rage these days, and the level of success that these teen queens (and even though it doesn’t rhyme, kings) are reaching in 2009 is a little bit beyond belief; with global stardom, millions in the bank, and legions of fans; there might not be a fast track way to success in showbiz, but these modern day starlets are starting young. So from one teen queen to another, move over Emma Watson, and meet Taylor Swift.
The American country-pop singer-songwriter who has been penning hits since she was knee high, Taylor Swift is currently riding high in the charts both here and on her home turf with her current single ‘Love Story’, which has been on the US Billboard charts for a staggering 38 weeks, and her album ‘Fearless’, which currently sits at number 10 on the same chart after an impressive 13 weeks. Vital stats aside, Taylor Swift just seems like a regular girl, but with enough boy related issues for at least another couple of albums; giving spurned adolescent girls everywhere reassurance that they are not alone, and ammunition should they ever come face to face with the one that did them wrong. Certainly, providing therapeutic tunes for the masses has lead somewhat to Swift’s success, although the fact that she is tall, blonde, and relatively easy on the eye, might explain to some extent her commercial appeal, and makes us question whether or not all of those ditty’s about boys messing her about are more fiction than they are fact. Whatever the case may be, Elle US have taken note of Swift’s aesthetics as well as her song-writing skills, and featured her in the July 2009 issue amidst the rather unglamorous setting of a supermarket aisle in country music mecca, Tennessee. Wearing a Ralph Lauren gown (not your regular supermarket shopping outfit, we think you’ll agree), the rather on-trend nude silk georgette has been accessorised with some ivory pearls, delicate crystals, and gold, all courtesy of Mawi.
Swift is wearing the Autumn/Winter 2009 Metal Dome Watchstrap Bracelet, a fresh take on Spring/Summer 2009’s ‘Rolex Collection’ inspired bracelet, which sees a departure from the angular edges of the previous pieces, with domes in either matte pearl or glossy metals becoming the signature shape of the season. Inlaid with a Swarovski crystal and with a second crystal and pearl encrusted accent, this piece makes a bold yet luxurious statement, and when teamed with the Autumn/Winter 2009 Cabochon Pearl Ring (which Elle US have credited as being worn by Taylor, although you can’t actually see it in the picture), these accessories provide a very modern take on some classic elements synonymous with glamour.
