If you are familiar with The Gossip’s Beth Ditto, then you will know that this singer is not afraid to stand out from the crowd. Always pushing the boundaries with her fashion choices, Beth Ditto is as much famed for her bold style statements as she is her voice. Saying that, Ditto has been in the spotlight more so lately as fashions latest unconventional darling with her day job very much on the back burner. However, all that is about to change, as The Gossip are back with a brand spanking new single ‘Heavy Cross’, taken from the forthcoming album, ‘Music For Men’.
So, of course, in light of their new material now very much upon us, The Gossip are back making videos to accompany the single to satisfy our eyes as well as our ears, and trust us, this one definitely doesn’t disappoint either of the senses. In a departure from their more homemade-esque videos of the past, their efforts for ‘Heavy Cross’ take on a far more polished feel with gold and silver featuring heavily. Talking of gold and silver, Mawi lent a piece to the stylist of the shoot, and by the looks of things, so did a lot of other designers. Beth Ditto is literally bedecked in metallic everything, from a liquid gold body suit, very on-trend mirrored shoulders, gold lipstick, a number of huge cocktail rings, a gold collar, and an industrial inspired necklace from Mawi’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection. I don’t think that I have ever seen the metallic trend taken quite so literally, but as it’s Beth Ditto, weirdly, it works.
Now, we’re not suggesting that you try this look in it’s entirity, but with Mawi’s Hammered Box with Five Side Dome Long Necklace, you can’t go far wrong; you’ll still be able to move, and you’ll stand far less chance of getting attacked by a ferocious flock of magpies.
