“I have to say that Mawi is one of my favourite jewellery collections. For six years I have had the pleasure of calling in these delightful jewellery creations in my role as fashion editor at Cosmopolitan UK. I rarely do a cover or celebrity shoot without calling in some Mawi delights, whether it be a studded cuff, a tiger ring or a chunky, clunky metal and jewel encrusted necklace. I love the originality and distinctive style of Mawi’s pieces. She cleverly fuses heritage inspiration (vintage paste and pastel jewels) with rock ‘n roll attitude (plenty of studs and heavy metal). You always know when you’re wearing a piece of Mawi jewellery, it is so distinctive.
With regards to AW12, here are my 5 favourite pieces:
1. Amethyst shard necklace on black ribbon
This is a very sculptural, almost architectural piece and deserves to be worn on its own with no other distractions. I’d pair it with a very crisp white shirt and skinny black jeans or satin cigarette pants for evening with a wickedly spiked heel.
2. Amethyst shard and large crystal bangle
In warm rose gold, this is an exquisite evening cuff, perfect for cocktails in a slinky beaded dress or a simple strapless black dress. Arms have to be bare to show of this gorgeous piece.
3. Teardrop crystal and pearl necklace
This is just so me. An adorable mix of vintage luxe and Mawi attitude. The delicate crystal stones work beautifully against the hardness of the chain link choker. Its a perfect mix and I’d wear it with a little fitted 60′s style shift dress or a strapless bustier dress for a special occasion.
4. Teardrop crystal ring
This is definitely an heirloom piece, but the large stone makes you feel like you’ve got something extra special on your finger. The great thing about Mawi is you can wear it with jeans or a cocktail dress and it will work equally well, which is just what this gorgeous ring does.
5. Cobra chain bangle
I love the simplicity of this! It looks divine in rose gold and the spiky studs give it that rock chick feel. You can wear this with absolutely anything but i:d pair it with a black silky top or dress cinched in at the waist with a tough leather belt and tight dark jeans.
I can’t wait to see what Mawi has in store for SS13!
