Now, we’re all too familiar with photographs of Alexa Chung wearing pieces from Mawi’s Heirloom collections; whether taken out and about between presenting jobs, parties, and fashion show front rows, or plastered on the pages of fashion’s glossies – Alexa just can’t seem to be without her few favourite Mawi pieces. With an eclectic sense of style that is a result of more often than not the perfect combination of vintage pieces, the high street’s hottest finds, and the latest designer must haves (lucky thing), Mawi’s equally eclectic Heirloom collections make for the perfect addition to Alexa’s look. For a feature in May 2009′s Harpers Bazaar, Alexa was barely seen without her very own precious Multiple Strand, Ruby Stone and Small Skull Necklace, despite the latest designer pieces from the most exclusive ateliers at her disposal for the day. The necklace even made it into the shoot’s credits as ‘Alexa’s own’, and although we sold out of that exact one last time it had a spin in the press, I am assured that there will be more of them available very soon.
Anyway, we’ve pretty much established that Alexa is a Mawi fan, but we have yet to see her incorporate one of our more contemporary pieces into her look…until now. For this rather uncharacteristically ‘sexy’ shoot below, Alexa appears far more polished and provocative than we are used to seeing her, and in turn tries out some Spring/Summer 2009 Mawi in the shape of our Box Chain and Pearl Necklace. Picking out the blue in her Marni frock perfectly, this look might be somewhat out of her comfort zone, but is definitely one that she shouldn’t dismiss in the future. Talking of comfort zones, if the media rumour mill is right, then Alexa is currently setting up home over in New York City and preparing to front a new show for MTV over there. Here’s hoping that Alexa won’t forget good old Blighty now that she’s stateside, and the jewellery brand here that she holds so dear.
